Phorum & Sam
Phorum thought she was there for a save-the-date.
That is what Sam had told her, and for most of the afternoon it stayed true enough — we walked, we laughed, we made portraits along the Golden Gate Bridge, the unhurried frames a couple keeps. She had no reason to look closer. Sam was carrying a ring in his pocket the whole time.
He had found me before we started. One thing, he said: when I give you the look — nothing spoken, just the look — start the song. "You Deserve It All," John Legend. So we shot, and we waited, and I kept half an eye on him the way you watch for weather.
Then the look. I started the song. The melody opened over the water.
Phorum understood before he finished the sentence. Nine seconds passed between will you and the moment her hand found his chest and pulled him into her — I know, because I was close enough to count them, and far enough to stay out of them.

I don't pose this part. There is nothing to improve on a person realizing they are about to spend their life with someone. My only job, the one Sam trusted me with, was to stand in the right place when it happened — and to let the song do what we had planned for it to do.
This is the work I care about most. Not the best light or the finest venue, though those come too. The true thing, made once, that you carry for the rest of your life.
